Investment Income Calculator
Estimate periodic income generated from an income-producing investment.
How to use the Investment Income Calculator
The Investment Income Calculator is free and runs entirely in your browser — no sign-up, and nothing you enter leaves your device. It opens pre-filled with a realistic example, so you can see how it works before replacing any figure with your own; the results update as you type. Press Calculate to refresh the result panel, or Reset to return to the example.
The inputs it asks for:
- Investment Amount — a dollar amount.
- Annual Yield — a percentage (enter 6 for 6%).
- Payout Frequency — choose one — Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, Annual.
The formula
Straightforward yield arithmetic: it applies the annual yield to your principal for the yearly income, then splits that evenly across the payout periods:
Annual income = Principal × Yield
Per payment = Annual income ÷ payouts per year
- Principal
- the amount invested
- Yield
- the annual income rate — a bond coupon, dividend yield, or savings APY
- payouts per year
- monthly = 12, quarterly = 4, and so on
This is simple income only: it assumes the yield is paid out rather than reinvested, and that principal and yield stay constant. It's a snapshot of income, not a growth projection.
Worked example
Using the example values — Investment Amount $500,000.00, Annual Yield 4%, Payout Frequency Quarterly — the Investment Income Calculator returns a Income per Period of $5,000.00. It also reports Annual Income ($20,000.00), Monthly Equivalent ($1,666.67).

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as total return?
No — it's income only. Total return also includes any change in the investment's price, which can be positive or negative.
Does it reinvest the income?
No — it assumes you take the income as cash. To compound reinvested income, use the compound interest calculator.
Is the income taxable?
Usually yes — interest and non-qualified dividends are generally taxed as income. This shows the pre-tax figure.
